Level I operation: This rate applies to users with working knowledge of the instrument. Level I operators will have received the appropriate safety training in addition to training by Center staff, or equivalent expertise, and in all cases certified by the lab manager to operate the instrument with modest supervision. Level I operators are responsible for the preparation of samples for analysis according to Center protocols and are expected to remain engaged in the analytical work during the entire session. The ultimate assessment of data quality is the responsibility of the Level I operator, but staff will make every effort to insure the best possible performance of the instrument and be responsible for troubleshooting, start‐up, shutdown and optimization. A Level I operator must not attempt unfamiliar procedures without consultation and permission with staff and may be held liable for damages to the instrument due to negligence.

Level II operation: This rate applies to experienced operators of the Center’s instruments. Level II operators will have at least 500 hours of Level I operation or equivalent experience on the instrument for which the rate is applied. The Technical Director is responsible for certifying users for “Level II” operation. A Level II operator must demonstrate competence to operate the instrument, conduct analytical technique independently, and observe all safety protocols. Under this designation, operators assume full responsibility for the instrument during the session and will be held responsible for any damages resulting from their negligence or improper use. The Level II operator must report any serious problems immediately to the staff in‐charge but should be able to solve/troubleshoot minor problems independently.

Non-University Differential (NUD) may vary annually. Current NUD will be assessed to external customers only.

Additional charges may apply for sample preparation, data reduction, and consultation at the rate of staff time and materials.

Contact the staff directly for price quotes for B, Li, Fe, Pb, Nd, Hf, U-series isotope analyses or other systems of interest.
